An Open Letter From the Principal to the Parents, no. 3

January 9, 2017

We live in a world with constants, or at least what we think are constants. The sun rises in the morning and sets in the evening. It becomes cold in the winter and warm in the summer. Gravity keeps our feet planted and birds can fly. We eat when we are hungry, we drink when we are thirsty, and we sleep when we are tired.

But constants aren't always constants. Many of the family members we grew up with were here yesterday and gone today. A job we had and no longer maintain. A pet, a friend, a vacation spot. Sometimes things change.

And sometimes those changes are hard, or sad, or difficult. Or we at least find ourselves creating a "this or that" - it's either there or it's not - mentality where change is hard, or sad, or difficult.

Change is inevitable.

But change doesn't have to be hard, or sad, or difficult. Change can be good and beneficial.

We are making changes at Trinity Christian School...all for the good and benefit of our students and the families that go to our school. You are important to us and we want to do everything we can to provide the best education we can for your little loved ones.

  • We have introduced Front Row Ed this semester. It is an online based learning program that individualizes lessons to the specific need of each student. It provides reports to the teacher to the strengths and weaknesses of each student.

  • We began using NWEA MAP at the end of last semester testing to look at growth over time. It allows each grade to see what they need to target in order to grow.

  • We have rearranged schedules to provide reading interventions in the morning for each elementary class. We are doing this with the use of high school students who in turn will receive a 5.0 A against a 4.0 GPA scale, allowing an opportunity to raise overall GPA.

  • We have worked on accelerating our math program in order to offer more math opportunities to our students.

  • We have created several ELA/Writing resource classes to strengthen our writing.

  • We are looking at using personal tablets for each student at the Junior High and High School level in order to move away from textbooks, use less paper, and create a cost-effective curriculum program by using digital licenses.

This is just a short list of changes that are happening. We are continuing to discuss and figure out what is best for students. Please keep an ear open and eye out as we do what we can for you and your students.
